Joe Hodgson


Senior Trader

Joe has been in the commodity trading business for over 25 years, after having held various other positions in the feed & grain industries. He began with FITC in 1995 and is primarily focused on merchandising cottonseed, oats, soy hulls and wheat midds.

Joe is FITC’s resident expert in truck transport and logistics. Joe’s regional emphasis is from New York south thru Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. Joe’s a 1970 Virginia Tech graduate. His son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren reside in North Carolina. He enjoys escaping to Florida to avoid the Northeast’s winters.

Mike O’Meara

Traffic Manager & Senior Trader

Mike has been with FITC since 2007. Immediately prior, Mike was Operations Manager for one of the region’s largest Home Depot stores where he was responsible for 65% of the store’s sales and managing 150 employees.

For FITC, he focuses on the canola meal, beet pulp, and citrus pulp markets, in addition to managing rail logistics. Mike also handles the purchasing for one of FITC’s largest dedicated accounts. Mike graduated in 1997 with a BS in Business Management from Canisius College. He is married with two daughters and one son.

Mike Smith

Director of New Business Development & Senior Trader

Mike has been with FITC for 5 years. His primary trading focus are in the areas of wheat midds and bakery by-product.

He also spearheads the purchasing for one of the company’s six “dedicated” accounts. Prior to FITC, Mike spent 2 years at R.E.G., originally part of West Central Coop. He also had 21 years of tenure at Blue Seal Feeds where he advanced to the position of Executive Vice President with responsibility for 9 feed mills, 11 retail stores, and the oversight of the purchase of over 600,000 tons of feed ingredients annually. Before Blue Seal, Mike spent 7 years trading at Pillsbury. Mike is married with two daughters. Mike enjoys brewing his own beer at home and loves trips to Maine.

Daniel Demeree

Dan grew up on an Upstate NY dairy farm and joined the FITC team after 4 years of working for Consolidated Grain and Barge as merchandiser and facility manager in the Ohio Valley region of the Midwest. 

As FITC’s newest member of the trading team, Dan is working to grow the grain business for the company as well as other opportunities.  Dan graduated from Cornell University in 2011 with a BS in Agricultural Science and minor in Business.  Dan enjoys playing sports and motorcycling when the weather offers the opportunity.

Sylvain Dumas - SD Grains, Inc.


Independent Contractor

Feed Ingredient Trading entered into an independent contractor's agreement with Sylvain and his company, SD Grains, Inc. to represent FITC's interests in the marketplace both in Canada and in the US States.

Sylvain has held various positions in the grain and ag industry after having graduated with degrees in Small Business Management and Logistics and Transportation in 1997. He has worked for Coop Federee in logistics and merchandising, for TRT in Trois Riverie, QU as manager of protein sales, and with ADM, Quebec as that office's Trading Manager.  Sylvain's primary focus for FITC will be on the oilseed protein products (soybean meal, canola meal, etc.), as well as other grains and by-products, particularly by rail, into these marketing ares. Sylvain is married with 2 daughters and a son. In his free time, he enjoys Hockey, running, and camping.  Sylvain can be reached at his office 438-497-5758.

Katherine Baumgartner



Katherine has been working with Grain elevators and Feed mills for nearly 10 years after growing up in rural Indiana. She joined FITC after serving as Director of Trading Operations for 8 ½ years with commodity brokerage and risk-management firm Grain Service Corporation in Atlanta, GA. She specialized in consulting for mid-sized grain elevators, processors, and feed mills, grain and soy-complex market and report analysis, futures and options trade recommendation, and preparing/presenting market commentary through daily bulletins, audio broadcasts. She now works to expand FITC’s trading operations deeper into the Midwest and currently trades glutens, soys, cottonseed, & midds. Katherine graduated from Purdue University in 2007 with a BS in Animal Agribusiness and an AS in Agricultural Economics. She is married with a St. Bernard and enjoys the outdoors, wine, exploring new areas, and riding her motorcycle.

Chris Pierpont

Chris comes to FITC from Lansing Trade Group with 8 years experience of trading, most of which was with Interstate Commodities.

He trades many different feed ingredients including distillers grains, cottonseed and wheat midds.  Chris has a B.A. degree in communications from Quinnipiac University.  He likes to stay active playing golf in the summer and skiing in the winter and also loves to travel.  Chris is from Niskayuna, NY and currently resides in Albany, NY.
